The first qualifying session for Lotus in sixteen years did not go as well as expected, with our direct rivals from Virgin Racing snatching from us the position of “best of the new teams” by less than a tenth of a second, (time difference between Timo Glock and Jarno Trulli). Despite the visits of driving legends and former Team Lotus drivers, Emerson Fittipaldi (1972 and 1974 world champion), Mario Andretti (1978) and Nigel Mansell (1992), which, by the way will help bring an end to ‘this is not the real Lotus’ rants, things did not result as expected.

With Jarno on the 20th position of the grid and Heikki on the 21st, the car has proven very reliable in the practice sessions and looks certain to finish ahead of the other new teams in tomorrow’s race and we are very much looking forward to watching the Grand Prix

The qualifying results brought us Sebastian Vettel in the pole (this young, enthusiastic and unassuming German driver is one of the most likable characters of the Paddock) as the new Red Bull seems to be the favourite in many Pundits minds. A noticeable front row position for Felipe Massa in his first qualifying session after his serious accident in Hungary, seventh place for the great Michael Schumacher in his comeback to Formula 1 after three years of retirement and we think this is quite an achievement. The seven times World Champion is a living legend and we will always treat him with the utmost respect in this site. On the side of COSWORTH engines, Rubens Barrichello missed narrowly the Q3, and will start from the 11th position after reporting some problems with his single seater, so the engine they share with our team is certainly as good as any other.

Video: Tony Fernandes and his “infectious enthusiasm”

In the meantime our boss Tony Fernandes is in very high spirits and that is great. We enclose his interview with Richard Quest on the CNN, let us get fired by his enthusiam and positive mindset!

Stay Tuned!

Animo!
