Bruno Senna has scored today the first 2 points of his career. It was a brilliant drive where he survived by inches the havoc of the first corner, which saw the retirement of Vitaly hit by a Liuzzi who had completely lost the control of his car… The Russian, fortunately was unharmed despite the harshness of the crash. Nico Rosberg was the other blameless victim of the HRT.
This caused Bruno to have to fight back from 15th place, he wisely changed his tyres to options during the Safety Car and would drive a brilliant comeback to 9th place. And this is not being overenthousiastic, as it was just his second Grand Prix. Oh yes! He participated last year at the wheel of an Hispania, a single seater much closer in performance to a GP2 than to an F1. I think uncle Ayrton would have been proud, his 7th place at the grid at Spa, his 9th in the race at Monza, the young Brazilian is, as “Magic” said, giving everything absolutely everything for our team. The future looks bright for him, and with a member of the Senna family on track again, competitors should better watch out.
Jaime Alguersuari once more staked his claim, starting from 18th place in the grid, he delivered a flawless drive to finish 7th, a brilliant performance. Behind Felipe Massa and 5 World Champions. Not bad for a kid at the wheel of a Toro Rosso, who knows these are the most critical races of his life and is soaking an inmense pressure. Well done! Some of us would so much like to see him at the wheel of the second Red Bull.
Fernando Alonso made one of the best starts of his racing life, since the times of Renault, that would enable him to reach the first corner ahead of everybody. The Safety Car came out after Liuzzi‘s accident, for a few laps. The restart saw an epic battle between Alonso and Seb, where the driver from Ferrari was way too harsh and made the German put two wheels on the grass. But the young World Champion from Heppenheim, has matured into a real Master, and he was through with the lead, never to be challenged for the rest of the race.
I wonder if his driving at Spa and his performance here, will make some self-appointed pundits acknowledge that he can overtake and soak any pressure. What else does he need to do?
Outqualified on Saturday, the McLarens kept a very competitive pace during the race. Alas! Jenson Button had a poor start and Lewis Hamilton was stuck behind a stunning Michael Schumacher for too many laps, a spectacular and ferocious fight. “Vintage Michael”, as Mercedes principal Ross Brawn put it afterwards… (And some thought MS was finished). Jenson did another outstanding race, overtook Michael pretty quickly (Lewis must have felt incredibly frustrated), caught Alonso, passed him and finished second. As Martin Whitmarsh stated after the Grand Prix, to win you need to get everything right and the team from Reading faltered at the start.
But whatever the Ferrari fans say, the Red Bulls are no more the unreachable missiles of the start of the season, in racing conditions the McLarens can and will beat them. Hats off to Mr.Whitmarsh and his team for achieving something that was deemed impossible just a few months ago.
According to the media, Ferrari Chairman, Mr.Montezemolo, has stated that his team can do without Adrian Newey. Why did they try to hire him last year then?
Chronicles from Alonsoland.
So far, just more of the same. The Red Bulls race in another League. (Wrong, the lap times and pace of both McLarens prove they are a real challenge provided they make a good start.) Ferrari will be unbeatable in 2012, (Without Adrian Newey, sure).
In this most peculiar Land of double standards, Seb wins only due to his car (except for a small handful of good professionals who think otherwise, good old Pedro de la Rosa among them), and Fernando doesn’t due to his team. I do warrant you that if they were to switch places, Red Bull would be the lucky beneficiary of Alonso‘s talent and Vettel the culprit of Ferrari‘s debacle. Those who admired Raikkonen‘s awesome talent, have clear memories of the way some media treated him in 2009.
I will update this section during the week, in the harsh times we are living, reasons for smiling are always welcome.

Sólo hay dos formas de sobrevivir sin el tito Adrian: o eres McLaren o tienes a Ross Brawn en tu equipo. Juas juas juas.
Esa mirada…….igualita al tito Ayrton. Es un milagro.
